Are There Exercises Or Stretches I Should Do At Home?Yes! In addition to the treatments we’re doing in the clinic, specific exercises and stretches can help you maintain the benefits of your NSSD care and speed up your recovery. I’ll work with you to develop a personalized home exercise plan that fits your needs and supports your spine. Some common stretches and exercises I often recommend include: Core Strengthening: A strong core is essential for good posture and spinal health. Simple exercises like sitting on a Swiss ball for 30-45 minutes each night can help to stabilize your spine by strengthening the deep spinal muscles that are most involved on postural and spinal stability. Use A Foam Roll: Using a foam roller on your back, shoulders, and legs can help release tight muscles and improve mobility. Light Movement: Keeping your body moving throughout the day is important, especially if you spend a lot of time sitting. Walking or light stretching every 45 minutes can help maintain spinal health. In addition to these general stretching methods, Dr Weiland has created a 3-month, self-paced back strengthening program that’s available online. This program is designed to help you build strength and develop safe movement habits that support your spine and prevent future injuries. It’s a great way to continue your recovery from the comfort of your own home, and it’s tailored to give you the tools you need for long-lasting spinal health. By incorporating these exercises into your routine, you’ll not only feel better faster but also reduce the risk of future injuries and discomfort. However, Dr Weiland will advise each patient when it is an appropriate time for them to commence the online rehab course. Always remember—your spine loves movement and care, and I’m here to help you keep it healthy both in and out of the clinic!

How can I protect my spine during daily activities?Protecting your spine during daily activities is all about maintaining good posture, using proper body mechanics, and being mindful of how you move throughout the day. Here are some key tips to help safeguard your spine: Lift with Your Legs, Not Your Back: Whenever you need to lift something, bend at your knees, not your waist, and use your leg muscles to do the heavy lifting. Keep the object close to your body to reduce strain on your spine. Sit Smart: When sitting, make sure your feet are flat on the floor, your knees are at a 90-degree angle, and your lower back is supported by the chair. If you're sitting for long periods, take breaks to stand, stretch, and move around. Posture Check: Whether you're standing or sitting, always aim to keep your spine in a neutral position—ears over shoulders, shoulders over hips, and hips over knees. Avoid slouching or rounding your shoulders forward. Be Mindful of Technology Use: If you're on your phone or computer, be mindful of "text neck" and "tech posture." Try to keep the screen at eye level and avoid looking down for long periods. Strengthen Your Core: A strong core is essential to maintaining a healthy spine. Incorporating exercises that target your abdominal and back muscles can provide better support for your spine. To help you incorporate these habits into your daily life, I've written a number of practical self-help guides that are available for download on the Resources section of this website. These guides offer simple, actionable tips to help protect your back and keep it strong, whether you’re at home, at work, or on the go. By following these tips and being mindful of how you move, you can reduce strain on your spine and protect it from injury. I’m here to support you with personalized care and resources to keep you living and moving comfortably!

How Soon Will I Feel Relief After Starting NSSD?The timeline for relief can vary from person to person, depending on the nature of your condition and how long you've been experiencing symptoms. Some patients feel immediate relief after their first visit, especially if they’re dealing with muscle tension or joint stiffness. For others, it may take a few sessions for the body to fully respond and start healing. NSSD works by addressing the root cause of your pain, so while some people experience quick relief, others may notice gradual improvements over time as your spine and body adjust. At The Adelaide Disc Center, we’re focused on getting you the best results in the shortest time possible, and I’ll be with you every step of the way, making sure you're comfortable and informed throughout the process!
-
Are There Any Side Effects After A NSSD Session? Most patients feel great after a NSSD session, but it’s also not uncommon for a small number of people to experience mild, temporary side effects, especially if it’s your first visit or you’re dealing with long-standing issues. These may include slight soreness, stiffness, or a feeling of being "out of alignment" as your body adjusts to the changes. Think of it like a workout for your spine—just like you might feel a bit sore after exercising muscles that haven’t been used in a while, your body might need a short time to adapt. These symptoms usually subside within a day or two, and many patients report feeling better overall after this initial period. If you do experience any discomfort, it’s typically mild, and I’ll be here to guide you through it. Rest, hydration, and stretching can help ease any temporary soreness. Remember, these sensations are generally signs that your body is starting to heal and realign itself. If you have concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out—I’m here to ensure your journey to recovery is as smooth and comfortable as possible!
-
What Should I Do If I Feel Sore After The Treatment? It’s normal to feel a little sore after NSSD sessions, especially if it’s your first few visits or if you've been dealing with pain for a while. Think of it as your body adjusting to the positive changes we’re making! If you do experience soreness, here are a few things you can do to ease any discomfort: Rest: Take it easy for a day or two. Avoid any heavy lifting, intense exercise, or activities that may strain your body. Give your muscles and joints time to adjust to the realignment. Hydrate: Drink plenty of water. Staying hydrated helps flush out toxins that may be released during the adjustment and supports the healing process. Gentle Stretching: Light stretching or gentle movement can help alleviate stiffness and keep your body from tightening up. Just be sure to listen to your body and avoid overdoing it. Use Heat or Ice: Depending on what feels best for you, applying a warm compress or ice pack can help with soreness. Heat can relax tense muscles, while ice can reduce any inflammation or swelling. Just remember, if you apply ice, make sure to walk around a little after removing the ice pack, otherwise you may feel quite stiff and uncomfortable. Take It Slow: If you’re feeling sore, give your body time to adjust to the changes. It may feel a bit like a workout hangover, but it should pass within a few days as your body adapts to the realignment. Communicate with Me: If the soreness doesn’t improve or if you’re feeling concerned, let me know! I’m here to guide you through the process and make sure you’re comfortable with your treatment plan. Remember, mild soreness is a common response as your discs begin to heal and realign. Most patients find that any discomfort fades quickly, leaving them feeling better overall. If you have any concerns or need extra support, don’t hesitate to reach out—I’m always here to help!

What Is The VibroStim, And How Is It Used In Treatment? The VibroStim is a fantastic tool we use to help soothe tight muscles, improve circulation, and promote relaxation. It’s a deep massage release tool that combines gentle vibration with targeted pressure to melt away muscle tension and improve mobility. Think of it as a mini spa session for your muscles—without the wait! When you come in with those stubborn knots or areas of discomfort, the VibroStim works its magic by applying soothing vibrations that help break up muscle stiffness and boost blood flow. Why Do I Use A Cold Laser, And How Does It Help Recovery?I have had extensive experience and training in the use of cold laser. I first started using cold laser over 20 years ago after reading about the effectiveness of cold laser in reducing low back pain in a highly respected, peer reviewed medical journal called "The Lancet." I quickly learnt that cold laser therapy was a cutting-edge, non-invasive way to accelerate healing, reduce pain, and decrease inflammation—without any side effects! It helps to reduce tissue inflammation fast, and can help to get injured athletes back on their feet very quickly. This became an essential tool when looking after the Australian National Ice Hockey teams as I toured with them when they competed overseas at the World Championships. Cold laser therapy uses a special light that penetrates deep into tissues, stimulating cells to repair themselves faster. Think of it as giving your body a little boost to help it heal more efficiently. Since that time, cold laser therapy and equipment has become even more effective! It helps by promoting faster tissue repair, improving circulation, and relieving pain without the need for invasive procedures or harsh medications. Whether you're dealing with chronic pain, inflammation, or healing from an injury, cold laser can help speed up the recovery process and get you back to feeling like yourself. At The Adelaide Disc Center, I use a custom-designed cold laser with German-made diodes to ensure top-quality results. It’s a safe, effective way to address issues at their source, helping you recover faster and feel better.

How Does Spinal Decompression Therapy Work?Spinal decompression therapy is a non-invasive treatment designed to gently stretch and relieve pressure from the spine, particularly the discs, which can become damaged or misaligned due to injury or wear-and-tear. Think of it as giving your spine a bit of space to breathe! During the treatment, you’ll lie comfortably on our specialized Hills SD table, which uses a gentle pulling motion to target the specific area of your spine that needs attention. This process creates a vacuum effect within the discs, helping them regain their normal shape and position. The result? Reduced pressure on nerves, improved circulation, and less pain. Spinal decompression therapy is ideal for treating conditions like herniated discs, sciatica, and degenerative disc disease. It’s a gentle, effective way to promote healing, increase flexibility, and get you back to doing the things you love—without the need for surgery. At The Adelaide Disc Center, we use advanced technology and over 35 years of experience to provide relief and help your spine feel its best!

What Should I Expect During My First Visit?Your first visit at The Adelaide Disc Center is all about you. We’ll take the time to truly understand your concerns, goals, and health history. Expect a warm welcome and a relaxed, no-rush environment where you can feel comfortable sharing everything about your symptoms, lifestyle, and any past treatments. Next, Dr Weiland will perform a thorough examination, which may include assessing your posture, range of motion, and spinal alignment. If needed, we might recommend imaging like X-rays to get a closer look at what’s happening beneath the surface. Before starting any treatment, we’ll explain our findings in clear, simple terms, discuss your options, and outline a personalized care plan designed to meet your needs. Many patients even receive their first gentle adjustment during this visit! Our goal is for you to leave feeling informed, confident, and ready to begin your journey to better health.
-
What Should I Wear To My NSSD Appointment?Comfort is key when visiting use for a NSSD session! Wear loose, flexible clothing that allows you to move freely and doesn’t restrict your range of motion. Think gym attire—like a t-shirt and stretchy pants or shorts—so you’re comfortable during your assessment and any adjustments. Avoid heavy layers, tight belts, or bulky accessories that could get in the way. If you’re coming straight from work, don’t worry—you’ll never need to fully change, and we’ll always work around what you’re wearing to keep your visit seamless. The Adelaide Disc Center is all about making your experience easy and stress-free, so come as you are, and we’ll take care of the rest!
-
Do I Need To Bring Any Medical Records To My First Appointment?Bringing relevant medical records to your first appointment can be incredibly helpful, but it’s not a must. If you have recent X-rays, MRI reports, or any other diagnostic results related to your condition, feel free to bring them along—it can give us a deeper insight into your health history and help us tailor your care plan more precisely. If you don’t have any records handy, no stress! We’ll conduct a thorough assessment during your visit, and if additional imaging or tests are needed, we’ll guide you through the next steps. At The Adelaide Disc Center, our focus is on understanding your unique situation and creating a plan that works for you, with or without prior medical records.
-
Do All Patients Receive the Same Treatment? No. Each patient at The Adelaide Disc Center is unique, and so is their treatment plan. Dr Weiland is an experienced Chiropractor and is trained in, and uses a wide variety of techniques. Dr Weiland will carefully assess each individual’s condition, age, and health goals to develop a customised approach that suits their specific needs. This ensures that every patient receives the most effective care possible.
-
Will I Experience Any Pain During Treatment? The NSSD treatment protocols used at The Adelaide Disc Center are designed to be as comfortable and as pain-free as possible. Most patients do not feel any pain or discomfort during or after the treatment. Some patients may occasionally feel or hear a small "pop" or "click" in the spine during a NSSD session as the spine is gently stretched. Most patients will simply feel a gentle stretching sensation. Many patients fall asleep during their NSSD session. A small number of patients experience some reactive muscle tightness, stiffness or spasm or a mild soreness during or after a treatment session due to the stretching of scar tissue in the affected area. This temporary discomfort is a normal sign of progress. A very small number may feel a temporary exacerbation of their presenting symptoms. Most post-treatment soreness is typically mild and short lived and is closely monitored by Dr Weiland.
-
How Long Will I Need NSSD Care? The duration of a NSSD program depends on your individual health needs and goals. At The Adelaide Disc Center, our initial focus is on relieving compression on the spinal discs and reducing spinal pain as quickly as possible. Most patients will experience some pain relief in just a few visits. However, patients with more severe pain or with more complex issues may need several weeks to see some improvement. Many patients also choose to have regular NSSD as part of their ongoing wellness routine. Whatever your presentation, our goal is to help you achieve the best possible results in the shortest time, ensuring effective, efficient care tailored to your individual needs.
-
Can Seniors Benefit from NSSD Care?Absolutely. NSSD care can be highly effective for maintaining mobility and managing pain in older adults. We use gentle, low-force techniques specifically designed to help seniors maintain their quality of life and mobility.
-
Can Pregnant Women Have NSSD?Unfortunately, NSSD is NOT suitable for pregnant women. It is difficult to accurately secure the straps due to the growing "baby bump." In addition, it is not recommended to apply stretching forces to a growing baby. Tiny babies need space to grow and stretch out! However, appropriate chiropractic care during pregnancy can often help ease discomfort. We suggest that pregnant mum's have gentle, technique appropriate chiropractic care during their pregnancy.
-
What Techniques Or Equipment Do You Use?At The Adelaide Disc Center, we combine advanced technology with evidence-based techniques to provide effective, personalized care. Our approach is designed to deliver results while keeping you comfortable. With 35 years of experience in the field, I’ve carefully selected the best tools to ensure that every treatment is not only effective but also comfortable—because you deserve the best! Here’s a glimpse of what we use: - Spinal Decompression Therapy: Performed on our state-of-the-art Hills SD table, this technique gently relieves pressure on discs, promoting healing and reducing pain. - ArthroStim Electronic Activator: A handheld device that delivers precise, gentle adjustments to the spinal segments for targeted relief. - VibroStim Deep Massage Release Tool: Perfect for relaxing tight muscles and enhancing circulation. - Cold Laser Therapy: Our custom-designed cold laser uses German-made diodes to reduce inflammation, speed up healing, and relieve pain. At The Adelaide Disc Center, Dr Weiland also incorporates a range of physiotherapy techniques, moist heat, cryotherapy, and electroanalgesia to give you a well-rounded NSSD treatment experience. Whether you’re dealing with chronic pain or seeking preventive care, our blend of tools and techniques is here to support your journey to better health.
-
Do I need "maintenance" visits after completing a NSSD program? The frequency of NSSD visits for maintenance care varies depending on your individual needs, lifestyle, and health goals. Some patients find that a regular NSSD session every 4 to 6 weeks helps them maintain optimal spinal health and prevent issues from reoccurring. Others may need slightly more frequent visits, especially if they have had chronic conditions or engage in activities that put additional strain on their spine. During your initial course of care, we’ll assess your progress, and together, we’ll develop a maintenance plan that works best for you. Maintenance care is all about preventing problems before they arise, helping you stay pain-free, and improving your overall well-being. Whether you need a few visits throughout the year or prefer to check in regularly, we’ll tailor a plan to fit your lifestyle and goals.
-
What Kind of Consultation Rooms Do You Have?Small, but very nice ones! And the tools and the equipment that we use at The Adelaide Disc Center is absolutely the "best of the best." Our goal at The Adelaide disc Center is to prioritize your comfort and privacy at every visit. At The Adelaide Disc Center, all consultations and all chiropractic treatment takes place in a private room, ensuring that you can stay relaxed and focus on your treatment in a clean, pleasant and comfortable, confidential environment.
-
Do You Collaborate with Other Health Professionals?Yes. At The Adelaide Disc Center, we often work with various health professionals including GPs, physiotherapists, massage therapists, and more. If your condition requires care outside the scope of NSSD or chiropractic, we are happy to refer you to the appropriate specialist and collaborate with them to ensure you receive comprehensive care.
-
Is NSSD Covered By Private Health Insurance?Yes, as a chiropractor, any services I provide are generally covered by most private health insurance plans. However, the amount of coverage will depend on your individual health plan and the specific benefits included.
-
Do I Need A Referral From A GP For NSSD?No referral is needed to begin care at The Adelaide Disc Center. Chiropractors are primary health care providers, meaning you can seek their services directly without prior referral from your GP. That said, we often collaborate with other medical professionals, and are happy to work alongside your GP if an integrated approach to your health is beneficial.
-
What payment methods do you accept? At The Adelaide Disc Center, we strive to keep our fees as low as possible while maintaining the high standard of care that you deserve. We price-check all other healthcare professionals to ensure that we’re offering competitive rates. While we’re not the cheapest (because quality rarely is), we’re also not the most expensive, and we always aim to make care affordable for everyone. Note that a NSSD visit is generally a 30-60 minute process and our fees are adjusted to account for this. All visits must be paid for in full on the day of your appointment. We accept cash or electronic funds via credit or debit cards for your convenience. We’re committed to making care as accessible and straightforward as possible, and we’re happy to answer any questions you may have about payment options!
-
How Long Are Your Regular Appointments? At The Adelaide Disc Center, we're not a volume clinic that rushes patients in and out like a fast food chain. Our standard appointment slot for a regular chiropractic visit is 15 minutes. For a regular NSSD visit it is approx 45 -60 minutes. We believe in quality, not quantity. Our approach is all about taking the time needed to properly address each patient's unique needs, ensuring they receive the personalized care and attention they deserve. We focus on long-term results, not quick fixes, and we’re dedicated to working with you every step of the way to achieve optimal health and well-being. I believe that our fees are very reasonable for this level of service.
-
Do you offer payment plans for extended care?Yes, I offer what I believe are very reasonable fees for the level of service provided. To help make your care more affordable, I provide prepayment plans that offer discounts and additional bonus visits when you pay for a block of treatments in advance. These prepayment plans are designed to give you more value for your commitment to your care while ensuring you have the flexibility to receive the treatment you need. I want to make sure you get the best possible care at a price that works for you. If you’re interested in exploring payment options or have any questions, feel free to reach out! Please note: Details of these plans may change from time to time. To confirm what is available, please feel free to discuss the current details with the front desk when you are next at the office.
-
Do You Offer HiCaps For NSSD?After offering HICAPS for many years in my previous practices, I’ve made the difficult decision to no longer offer HICAPS at The Adelaide Disc Center, due to the increased costs and complexity of administering the system. However, most health funds now have apps that allow you to claim almost immediately using the receipt we provide, making the process quick and easy. We’re committed to making care as accessible and straightforward as possible, and we’re happy to answer any questions you may have about payment options!
